Thailand exempts Chinese and Korean steel and aluminum anti-dumping duties

2021-05-28

Thailand’s Zhong Hua Daily reported on May 24 that the Thai government decided to implement a six-month temporary anti-dumping tax exemption for cold-rolled and hot-rolled steel and aluminum products imported from China and South Korea. This is a response to Thailand’s domestic steel and aluminum products. Adaptive adjustments taken in response to price spikes. The substantial increase in the cost of raw materials made the contractor complain about the inability to continue the progress of the project.

Thailand imposes limited anti-dumping duties on imported steel and aluminum products, on the one hand to protect the domestic steel industry from external shocks, and on the other hand to maintain the stability of domestic steel and aluminum prices. However, as countries have recovered from the economic impact of the new crown to varying degrees, the United States and China have increased their domestic infrastructure construction to boost their domestic demand for steel and aluminum products. Reduced exports have led to an imbalance in global steel and aluminum supply and demand. Prices subsequently Soaring all the way. This has also had a great impact on the domestic supply and demand of steel and aluminum in Thailand. In order to better alleviate domestic price stability and help companies reduce costs, the Anti-dumping Subsidy Committee of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand decided to suspend the levy of steel and aluminum products imported from China and South Korea after discussion. Anti-dumping duties, the first time period is 6 months. However, according to the situation, we will discuss again whether to extend or resume the anti-dumping duties.
